Nirmala Nair, Director, Zero Emissions Research and Initiatives, Cape Town, South Africa, and author of A Bridge on no Rivers approached CREATE DESIGN ™ to develop a book cover for her first novel.
A Bridge on no Rivers ‘Temple of my past. I could never go back. And yet I am so deeply connected to it, like a very lonely bridge with no river running under it, only the mighty ocean of life.’
The story outlines the effects of moving away from your heritage to live in a modern city. It dissects the problems of living in a present society that is rapidly losing traditions and values of the past. The book explores our inner desire to seek refuge in our past and to use this to try and make sense of life by revisiting what we know in pursuit of defining our purpose.
The cover of the book was designed to demonstrate an ocean separating the two places that the character in the book, a woman, is struggling to adapt to and detach herself from. Both places carry their own unique beauty but oceans of culture and traditions separate them.
