Ashes of Roses, Stellenbosch-based clothing label

Ashes of Roses, the lovechild fashion label of Maaika Kruger, needed a truly sensitive approach to develop a new brand. CREATE DESIGN ™ went to work to the sounds of Emy Lou Harris & the Wrecking Balls - Maaika’s favourite band. We spent hours watching the thorn birds to really get the feel for Maaika’s romantic design inspirations.

CREATE DESIGN ™ illustrated a logo born of a fable – that the thorn bird only sings one earthstoppingly beautiful song in its life and then dies upon a thorn pierced through the heart. This romantic ideal is rendered through the delicate filigree and illustration for the brand.

The swing ticket, executed on luxurious uncoated stock, is printed with a metallic shine to allow it to glimmer in the light. This brand will grow over time as it has such incredible potential.
